The Campaign to Bring Captive Orca Tokitae Home
Originally aired: Wednesday, April 6, 2022
Five decades ago, southern resident orca whale Tokitae was taken from her pod in the Puget Sound to perform for crowds at the Miami Seaquarium.
She's since been retired from shows but remains in captivity in Florida.
Ellie Kinley is a Lummi tribal fisher and the president of the land conservation non-profit Sacred Sea. She is also the co-host of the upcoming Sacred Sea podcast. She joins Seattle's Morning News to talk about the active effort to bring Tokitae home to her native waters, and her family.
